Chapter One Adoption Nation

We all began this class by reading Chapter one of Adoption Nation from which we learned a great deal about adoption. As group we first discussed our interest on the author's view of open adoption. We all noticed how he greatly favored open adoption and how passionate about open adoption. We found this interesting because he supported his view of open adoption by using personal experiences. Lisa found this interesting because she had previously thought that closed adoption was still the norm.

We also found the family adoption tree to be very enlightening because we had never thought of adoption in such a personal way. We did not consider how almost everyone is connected somehow to adoption. Lisa is connected to adoption by knowing an aunt and uncle that adopted their children. Julie is related to adoption by knowing an aunt and uncle that attempted to adopt. Ka Lia can relate to adoption by having an inter-family adoption. Chia can relate to adoption by having a friend that had a child that was placed up for adoption. So even within our small group the adoption tree theory proves true.
